Patricia é uma apaixonada por pensar criativamente e encontrar soluções melhores. Quando percebeu que sua liberdade estava sendo absorvida e que começava a seguir um script de mercado, decidiu que era hora de tomar as rédeas do seu próprio futuro profissional, abrir mão da estabilidade financeira e iniciar sua caminhada pelo empreendedorismo. Depois de três tentativas deu certo – ou melhor, está dando, e aqui ela compartilha um pouco do que tem vivido e aprendido à frente do time da Ideativo.
Patricia is passionate about thinking creatively and finding better solutions. When she realized that her freedom was being absorbed and that she was beginning to follow a market script, she decided it was time to take the reins of her own professional future, give up financial stability and start her journey towards entrepreneurship. After three attempts it worked - or rather, it is working, and here she shares a little of what she has experienced and learned at the head of the Ideativo team.
Sou Patricia Prado, UX designer e co-fundadora do Ideativo design e do treinamento UX Overtake, graduada em Design Gráfico, especialista em UX design, mestre em Design e doutoranda em linguística. Com esse mini perfil, já deu para perceber que sou completamente apaixonada pelo que faço e isso me ajudou a manter os negócios mesmo em situações difíceis.
Em todos os cenários o objetivo é ter liberdade – em todas as suas extensões: fazer um curso a hora que quiser, fazer mestrado e doutorado sem ficar implorando por algumas horinhas semanais, poder decidir a hora em que quero trabalhar, ter pessoas que gosto por perto, decidir qual tipo de projeto é interessante atuar, e fazer tudo isso sem preconceitos. Poder criar as próprias regras e mudar da maneira que acredito ser melhor, falar de igual para igual em uma mesa de reunião, ter uma família e, mais importante, ter tempo de cuidar dela. ❤️

How do you define what you do? Tell us briefly about what your business is.
I am Patricia Prado, UX designer and co-founder of Ideativo design and UX Overtake training, graduated in Graphic Design, specialist in UX design, Master in Design, and PhD student in linguistics. With this mini profile, it's easy to realize that I'm completely passionate about what I do, and that helped me to keep business even during difficult situations.
In all scenarios the goal is to have freedom - in all its extensions: to take a course at the time I want, to do a master's and doctorate without begging for a few hours a week, to be able to decide when I want to work, to have people I like around, to decide what kind of project is interesting to work with on and to do it without prejudice, to be able to create my own rules and change in the way I believe to be the best, to talk as equals at a meeting table, to have a family and, more important than that, to have time to take care of it. ❤

O começo, simplesmente aconteceu. Eu e minha sócia sempre atuamos juntas pegando freelas e, de repente veio a decisão difícil de ficar 100% no Ideativo. As dificuldades giravam em torno da falta de conhecimento sobre administração e a área contábil, mas com o tempo isso foi se ajustando. Outro ponto que também sentimos dificuldades foi a parte de negócios – éramos designers, não negociadoras natas – tivemos de desenvolver um discurso de vendas, entender de marketing. Coisas que vão muito além da operação do design em si.
Pensando em processos, até hoje ajustamos e evoluímos nossos processos e decisões, tudo depende do que planejamos. Por exemplo, esse ano tivemos de refazer a nossa estratégia em função da pandemia e adaptar os processos para que todos fossem feitos de maneira remota. O aprendizado é constante!!!
How was the beginning? Did you already know exactly what you wanted or things happened in a more organic and evolutionary way?
The beginning, it just happened. My partner and I always collaborate together taking freelance jobs and suddenly came the hard decision to stay 100% in Ideativo. The difficulties revolved around the lack of knowledge about management and the accounting area, but with time this was adjusting. Another area that we also experienced difficulties was the business part - we were designers, not negotiators - we had to develop a sales speech, understand marketing. Things that go far beyond the operation of the design itself.
Thinking about processes, until today we adjust and evolve our processes and decisions, everything depends on what we plan. For example, this year we had to rethink our strategy and adapt the processes due to the pandemic so that they were all done remotely. Learning is constant!

O dia a dia começa cedo por aqui, às 7h da manhã já estou tomando café e zapeando nas notícias para saber o que está acontecendo pelo mundo. Durante o banho já fico planejando o dia, ou seja, já ligo o motorzinho – isso quer dizer que abro os trabalhos da empresa – o meu dia às vezes é ficar atendendo e negociando com clientes, fazendo propostas comerciais, articulando relacionamento com os clientes, falando com a equipe, e organizando as aulas. Além de empreender, decidi que a docência era um caminho muito bacana para evoluir e compartilhar conteúdo.
Há alguns anos venho planejando a maternidade e, daqui algumas semanas, o Raul vai nascer. Então, o foco entre negócios, docência, doutorado e família vai ter mais um integrante, ou seja, rotina vai ter um ritmo um pouco mais agitado \o/
What's your work schedule like? How is a typical workday for you?
The day starts early around here, at 7 am I'm already having coffee and surfing the news to know what's happening around the world. During the shower I'm already planning the day, in other words, I'm already starting the engine - this means that I open the company's work - my day sometimes is to attend and negotiate with clients, making commercial proposals, articulating relationships with clients, talking to the team, and organizing classes. Besides undertaking, I decided that teaching was a very nice way to evolve and share content.
I've been planning the motherhood for a few years and in a few weeks, Raul will be born. So, the focus between business, teaching, doctorate, and family will have one more member, that is, the routine will gain a bit more agitated rhythm \o/
Com o passar do tempo as dificuldades se tornam superação, você aprende e aplica o aprendizado ali no "real oficial" do dia a dia e avalia se traz resultado. Senão, tenta outro caminho. Agora uma dificuldade recorrente é bater metas as comerciais. Muito difícil fechar contratos, convencer as pessoas que o UX é importante e que faz diferença se for bem aplicado. Essa questão tem relação forte com equilibrar as contas, todo mês é um jogo de equilíbrio e paciência. Respirar fundo, correr atrás de um resultado financeiro para poder compartilhar com a equipe é sempre um grande desafio.
Sempre comentamos por aqui, não queremos ser um mega estúdio de design. O que desejamos é sermos compactos, trabalhar junto com as empresas, ter proximidade de equipe e, com isso, ter um valor agregado muito maior que os estúdios de design que têm rotinas de entregas frenéticas como uma agência. Nada de fazer um projeto e sair correndo, rs. Queremos participar, trazer resultados e estar próximos.
What's the best and the most difficult thing about your work?
As time goes by the difficulties are overcome, you learn and apply the learning there in the "real official" of the day and evaluate if it brings results. Otherwise, try another way. Now a recurring difficulty is hitting the commercial's goals. It is very difficult to close contracts, to convince people that UX is important and that it makes a difference if it is well applied. This issue has a strong relationship with balancing the accounts, every month is a game of balance and patience. So we take a deep breath and run after a financial result in order to share it with the team. It's always a great challenge.
We always say here, we don't want to be a mega design studio. What we want is to be compact, to work together with companies, to be close to a team and, with that, to have a much bigger added value than design studios that have frenetic delivery routines as an agency. We don't want to make a project and run away, lol. We want to participate, bring results and be close.

Tudo isso exige muita criatividade e resiliência. Não é fácil, mas é possível. Acredito que o grande diferencial é ter coragem de seguir. Errar, levantar, bater a poeira e ir novamente. Um conselho que minha mãe sempre me deu foi: "Minha filha, se não der de um jeito, tenta de outro". Essa é uma frase que tem tudo a ver com criatividade, pois sabemos que a criação não é algo divino, mas sim um trabalho árduo em busca da resolução de problemas. Dessa forma, vou seguindo e evoluindo, sempre respeitando meus limites e caminhando junto com a equipe maravilhosa do Ideativo e com meus alunos.
What role creativity plays in your life and work? What does living a creative life means to you?
All this requires a lot of creativity and resilience. It is not easy, but it is possible. I believe the big difference is having the courage to follow. Make a mistake, get up, beat the dust and go again. One piece of advice my mother always gave me was: "My daughter, if it doesn't work one way, try another". This is a phrase that has everything to do with creativity, because we know that creation is not something divine, but a hard work in search of solving problems. This way, I'm following and evolving, always respecting my limits and walking together with the wonderful team of Ideativo and my students.
